GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) )
We combine orthorectified satellite images and digital aerial photography mosaics with extracted vector and client supplied attribute data and hot links, using ESRI's ArcView GIS, ArcGIS and ArcGIS 3D Analyst Project files, in support of:
One of the primary services RST supplies during the implementation of a GIS Project, is to assure that varies data layers are referenced to one (1) common Survey Datum and Mapping Projection and maintain an ongoing QC program
Some GIS Projects are hampered with coordinate problems of different Image and Vector data layers, caused by one or a combination of the following:
Most of these problems are experienced, because the clear identification and understanding of Geodesy as it applies to Survey Datum's, 3D Geocentric coordinate relationships between the Survey Datum's, Mapping Projections and how it can effect the GIS Project primary objective, providing a seamless GIS Project, is not always understood.
Potential coordinate problems for the Image and Vector data sets can be avoided, by utilizing one (1) Dual frequency GPS Satellite receiver and acquire GPS Satellite data at one (1) of the GCP Survey control or Primary GPS Network stations, observed as part of the GIS Project. After receiving the GPS Satellite data, RST will connect this GPS station, to a minimum of three (3) International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) referenced stations, located around the World.
Because of ongoing survey activities, the GPS Satellite data for this ITRF connection is generally acquired by the Customer, with specifications and Survey procedures provided in detail by RST for the GPS data recording and associated Survey activities. The GPS data is transmitted by E-mail to RST and processed, providing the GPS ITRF Network tie with a Position accuracy of < 0.25 meters in each axis (Latitude/Longitude and Ellipsoidal Height) for any station around the World.
The final Coordinates for this Reference Station and associated Images and vector data layers of the GIS Project, will than be referenced to the "Correct" WGS-84 Earth Centered Earth Fixed (ECEF) reference system, thereby avoiding any Survey Datum ambiguities. If the GIS Project has to be referenced to a local Survey Datum, proper Datum Shift and parameters and transformation procedures are utilized.
