OIL EXPLORATION Recovery of Old Well Locations and 2D Seismic Surveys In jungle terrain, old well locations and seismic surveys are recovered, utilizing the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) mapping techniques to recover old heliports and well sites. This process has been successfully utilized in the Amazon basin. In arid terrain, scares of exploration activities can sometimes be detected, identifying well locations and seismic lines. This information is utilized to correct seismic and well coordinate databases prior to extensive data interpretation, to select new 2D seismic coverage or proposed well locations.
